Background: Stress, anxiety, and depression are common mental health concerns among universitystudents. Living arrangements—whether on-campus (hostellers) or off-campus (day scholars)—mayinfluence these issues. Limited research exists comparing the two groups, prompting this study.
Aim: To examine and compare stress, anxiety, and depression levels among hostellers and day scholars, based on the hypothesis that hostellers would report higher distress due to residential challenges.
Method: A sample of 61 college students participated in the study. Standardized tools measured stress, anxiety, and depression. Independent-samples t-tests were used to compare scores between hostellers andday scholars.
Result: Hostellers showed significantly higher levels of anxiety and depression than day scholars. However, no significant difference was found in stress levels.
Conclusion: The findings suggest living conditions impact anxiety and depression among students. Supportsystems should be tailored to address the unique stressors faced by hostellers.
